“This Beautiful Land” is an exhibition of paintings showing the beauty of Cornwall in all its glory, in vivid representational detail. From cliffs laden with sea pinks & vetch, idyllic springtime flowers in the hedges, high summer on the moors ablaze with gorse & heather, translucent turquoise seas & golden beaches, to spectacular sunsets & magical moonlight, these paintings showcase our treasures of landscape at all times of day & night. A selection of paintings for the exhibition can be seen on my website www.sarahvivian.com
Combining classic technical methods with Pre-Raphaelite painting techniques, I build up layers of paintwork, of textural brush marks with translucent glazes over, giving paintings which are vividly realistic, but in an hyper-real & intensified manner. I try to reach for the essence, patterns and resonance of a place, or a stone, or a tree, and hope to connect with the magical energy of the land & express this in paint. I regularly exhibit original paintings at The Roundhouse in Sennen, Just Fine Art in St Just, The Little Picture Gallery in Mousehole, Market House Galleries in Penzance, and The Atrium Gallery in Bath, and also have cards & prints in over 30 other outlets, mainly in the SW of Cornwall.
This will be my tenth exhibition (including both group and solo shows) but the first away from West Penwith. Some new paintings are of the Bodmin area, especially Golitha Falls. For any further information please contact me by phone – 01736 78752 or by email, or visit my website, address as above.
